? Vikings 71 – Boroughmuir 14 ? by John Leatham
On a cool, clear February morning, the Vikings welcomed Boroughmuir for our third meeting of the season ❄️
The previous two encounters had been tight battles that narrowly went against us, so we knew another tough test was coming. The focus was simple: win the gainline – with and without the ball ?
From the first whistle, the boys delivered. Their controlled aggression set the tone early ? Carries were direct and powerful, regularly drawing 3–4 defenders at a time. The work rate at the breakdown was outstanding, keeping ball clean and capitalising on every hard-earned metre.
Defensively, Boroughmuir were given no time to settle. Relentless line speed, dominant tackles in their backfield, forced errors, and sharp reactions to loose ball meant the pressure never eased.
It was suffocating rugby — and although Boroughmuir battled gamely, the Vikings were relentless.
By half-time, the scoreboard read 40–0. A scoreline that was fully deserved
Great teams don’t let the scoreboard dictate their standards — and the Vikings proved that in the second half. Standards remained high, the intensity didn’t drop, and some terrific individual tries kept the scoreboard ticking
This performance was a real marker of how far this group has come. Their unselfish attitude and work ethic have built a cohesive, tough side — and they’re only going to get better ?
A result to enjoy… but it’s back to work next week to make sure the standard set today becomes the standard we keep. ?
