The Vikings went into this weekend’s match full of energy and determination, and they showed it right from the start. Straight from kick-off, they pushed deep into Boroughmuir’s half, putting together some excellent phases and nearly getting themselves on the scoreboard. A strong run down the wing looked certain for a try in the corner, but the referee judged it just short – a tough call that could easily have gone our way.
Boroughmuir responded quickly with a powerful break through the middle, scoring a try and adding the conversion. The Vikings, however, didn’t let their heads drop. When Muir launched another strong attack, the defence stood tall and managed to hold the ball up over the line – a brilliant bit of teamwork and determination that showed the boys’ grit under pressure.
From the resulting goal-line drop-out, Muir managed to cross the line again, but the Vikings’ effort and commitment never wavered. The boys kept working for each other throughout the match, tackling hard, running strongly with ball in hand, and showing flashes of real attacking intent.
While the scoreboard ended in Boroughmuir’s favour, this game was full of positives for the Vikings. They created chances, defended bravely, and showed they can match strong opposition for effort and spirit. With a bit more luck and a few small improvements, those chances will turn into points in the weeks ahead.
Most importantly, the boys stuck together, never gave up, and showed the character that makes this team special. Lots to be proud of – and plenty to build on.
